"Pupil Premium (PP) grant provides funding to improve educational outcomes for disadvantaged pupils in state-funded schools in England". (DfE June 2025)
What is Pupil Premium?
Pupil Premium is extra funding from the government for schools to support pupils who are eligible for free school meals (FSM)or have a parent in the armed forces (this is called Service Pupil Premium). Currently, schools get £1050 for each eligible pupil and £335 for service children. Pupil Premium Plus (PP+) is for children who are in foster care or have been adopted. The Department for Education (DfE) understands that these children may have faced challenges and need extra support. Schools receive £2570 for each child in this category, and the money goes to the Virtual School, which helps coordinate education services for these children.
How we use Pupil Premium?
The use of the Pupil Premium grant at Fort Royal is designed to impact on, and raise the attainment, life experiences and outcomes of our disadvantaged pupils. The generic nature of some of these activities and interventions does allow for a positive impact on other pupils in the school.
How long is the grant paid?
The Pupil Premium grant is available for six years after your child first received free school meals. This funding can follow your child from primary to secondary school.
