Message from Mr Francis

I can hardly believe that I am now entering my final term as a teacher, after 35 years working in special schools—25 of those here in Worcestershire. It has been a real pleasure and privilege, and I have enjoyed every minute. I am certainly going to make the most of the time I have left.

The children have settled back into their routines quickly and seem very happy to be back at school. It’s been lovely to see. We have also heard that Vanessa, now Headteacher at Backmarston Special School in Hereford, has had a positive start in her new role. We wish her every success.

New transport arrangements

We are very pleased with how the new transport arrangements have settled so far. Drivers have adapted well to the new schedules, and the car park already feels more organised and less crowded. We do recognise that some children now have longer journeys. If you have any concerns about this, please do let us know—we are also monitoring this closely in school.

To help keep everyone safe, if you are driving onto the site to collect your child, please keep the process as brief as possible.

If you have a lot to discuss with staff, we kindly ask that you arrange a phone call, send an email, or write in the school diary so that conversations can continue more comfortably. If you are walking on site, please ensure you cross the car park using the zebra crossing only. We have seen a few near misses and want to keep everyone as safe as possible.

Class 2

In Class 2 this week we have been continuing our exploration of minibeasts, linked to our Literacy book ‘Mad about Minibeasts’.

This week we have focussed on writing in literacy. We have used a range of traditional writing tools including pens, chalks and pencils, as well as using our fingers when exploring mark making using ICT.

In topic, as part of Science, we have been on bug hunts; firstly exploring minibeasts in the classroom using sensory trays and Grid on the interactive whiteboard then exploring Conker wood and Paddock looking for a range of minibeasts. We have found ants, flies, worms and butterflies. The children used Grid on the iPads to help them to communicate what they could find.

In maths this week, we have been focussing on length, exploring length worms and using sensory materials to draw long and short lines.

Class 22

Class 22 have had a fantastic start to the half term, enjoying activities based on The Jolly Postman.

In literacy, children took part in role play, delivering letters and exploring characters’ thoughts and feelings, while beginning to use adjectives in their writing.

In maths, some children joined in with counting songs and represented numbers using different resources, while others explored estimation using number lines.

In geography, children learned about local places, identified human and physical features, created observational drawings, and used compasses to navigate around school.

We also celebrated Earth Day with a bug hunt and seed planting in Planter’s Patch, learning how to care for our planet.

We are so proud of the children’s hard work and look forward to more exciting learning this term!
